Hurricane fires the Medium back into Profit!!

Hurricane Fly's impressive performance fired the Punters Medium back into a 1 point profit for overall bets posted on this blog. I'm hoping to use this win to build a bit of momentum into some of the betting opportunities today. At Sandown there is a mixed card.

The first bet of the day goes in the 15.55 race at Punchestown. Willie Mullins horses are flying at the moment and I beleive Cest Ca to well handicapped for this race. In his last race he found one better at Fairyhouse but the ground was very heavy and now he goes up in trip and I think that will suit him well.

Cest Ca 5/1 Punchestown 17.35.

Right now to the Football!
I can't see Newcastle losing again this season they are flying and the pressure off them for being promoted has seemed to let them play with more freedom and dominate even more. At home they are very strong and although 1/2 is a short price I'm willing to get involved. Another 1/2 shot but simply must win is Huddersfield away at Stockport. Stockport have been abmissmal and Huddersfield flying beating the most in form team in the whole league last time out against the impressive Millwall. 1/2 put it in the coupon. Next up for is Oldham Southend since the turn of the year have been abmissmal, the club is in turmoil and I think they will go down today. Oldham have started picking up points and put in a very impressive draw against Southampton last time out. On that form this should be a home banker at 5-6 i think that is a very good price. Next the last one for the coupon will be Leicester City away at Preston. Preston haven't impressed me even with Ferguson in charge and I've been impressed with Leicester at 7/5 its one for my coupon.

1 pt
Newcastle 1/2
Huddersfield 1/2
Oldham 5/6
Leicester 7/5

Enjoy a good days sport!

Get Ready for a Hurricane!!!

My big bet today is on Hurricane Fly in the 5.30 at Punchestown. The majority of his rivals all have had tough seasons and Fly has only had one run all be it a poor one at Punchestown but I think you can discount this run due to the very heavy ground. He is now back in the spring on firmer ground back the festival he won last year. Willie Mullins horse are flying at the moment and I expect another Mullins winner in this race. He will regain his form and could hose up today.

3 pt win 7/2 Hurricane Fly 5.30 at Punchestown.

My next bet is a small e/w on Kings John Castle in the 16.20. He refused to run at Aintree and would have been geared up for that race. So although on top weight he will be fresh and raring to go. At 20-1 I think it is worth a couple of quid e/w.

1 pt e/w 20-1 Kings John Castle 4.20 Punchestown.

Enjoy the Racing,
Sorry have been away lately will start to pick it up again.

Right the blog is going to become a little bit breifer as my dissertation deadline looms. Today is the start of the Punchestowns festival Ireland's Cheltenham and I have 2 bets from running here today.

1st is Kandari in the 16.55 Noel Meade has been saying good things about the horse and importantly Paul Carberry is on board who is a master at steering his mounts through these huge irish handicap fields.

Kandari 2 pts e/w 11-1

2nd bet is Kalahari King he fell last time out at Aintree and I therefore didn't have too tough a race. At 5-1 I think it is a pretty sound e/w shot.

Kalahari King 2 pts e/w 5-1

Back On- Monday 19th April

Right I had the weekend off to freshen things up and am now invigorated for this weeks racing. Today is a typical Monday the racing is much but you can't complain as racing enthusiasts we are spoilt with our sport being on every single day. Today I'm a bit annoyed I've got up late and missed the early prices but I'm going to put a trixie on which is 1 treble and 3 doubles containing 3 horses. I've been impressed with Mick Channon's start this year and he saddles up two with big chances in the first two races at Pontefract today. With ex-champion jockey Kieron Fallon back trying to reclaim his crown on board I fancy these two runners. I think Born to Perform will complete the Fallon treble in the 15.40 as well.

Silca Conegliano 2.10 pontefract 3-1
Il Portico 2.40 Ponterfract 9/4
Born to Perform 3.40 6/4

1 pt win trixie= 4 pts

All bets put on with paddypower who guarantees best odds (if not on betfair must exploit these best odds offers.

Good Luck All,

Thursday 15th April

Right Newmarket and Cheltenham continues today both quite tricky on the whole. My first bet of the day comes in at Newmarket in the 15.00. Equiano he has ran solid races in group 1 categories and I think he will benefit from this step down with every chance of scoring for the Hills team but is too short for me at 3-1. The Best runner Mulluionileanhour or something like that (awful name for a horse) is an interesting runner after being a bright 2 yr old and injury hampering its development, on its reapperance it ran a credible race. The one I'm going to back however is the Stoute runner Golden Stream at 17/2, he is a well bred horse and importantly has won around Newmarket. I realise its his reapperance but I think I'd rather be backing him at 17/2 e/w than the others in the race.

1pt e/w Golden Stream Newmarket 15.00 17/2

My other bet of the day again at Newmarket is Tranquil Tiger in the 16.10. He seems to regained some of his past form on the all weather over the winter and previously has really mixed it with some good grade races. At 10/3 I think he is good value for his return to turf.

1pt win Tranquil Tiger Newmarket 16.10 10/3

Enjoy the Racing !!

Back into the Profit!!!

Duc de Regniere battled well to win for me at the 6-1 I got this morning, which drags me to a +1pt profit. I'm not going to have a bet on the footy tonight looks like a bit of a minefield. If I was going to have a little flutter it would be on a draw between Aston Villa and Everton coupled with an Arsenal win. Tottenham have been awful of late both in the cup semi and away to Sunderland they were woeful. I know Arsenal got a spanking from Barcelona but lets just say David Bentley isn't going to cause as many problems as Lionel Messi. Arsenal with a few players out but Van Persie will be on the bench and that could lift the team. Villa have a good home record although crashing out the FA cup they put in a credible performance and Everton have been playing well in 2010 so I think they will cancel each other out. As it happens I've convinced myself to have a couple of quid on that.

0.5 pt double Arsenal 5-4 and Villa Everton draw 23-10

Enjoy the sport!

Wednesday!!

Right Newcastle's win last night helped with some damage limitation getting the total back to -4 pts. Today we have interesting race meets at Cheltenham, Newmarket and Beverley as well as a bit of footy to get our teeth into tonight.

Boychuk is my first selection in the 14.45 at Cheltenham, importantly he has won over course and distance. Its had a relatively long lay off and has been freshened up for this race at 4-1 I think it is an e/w shot to nothing.

1pt e/w Boychuk 14.45 Cheltenham 4-1

Duc de Regniere is my next tip in the 15.55 again at Cheltenham, I think he is well handicapped and has handled fences very well this season. Again at a price like 6-1 looks like a solid e/w chance.

1 pt e/w Duc de Regniere 15.55 Cheltenham 6-1

Now to Beverley where I fancy the Fahy runner Glenn's Princess in the 13.30. Richard Fahy's horses are flying at the moment and I think in this maiden if Glenn's Princess is primed like the other runners it will have every chance.

1 pt win Glenn's Princess 13.30 at Beverley 5/2

Enjoy a good day's racing everyone!

Tonight's Footy

Today's racing didn't go to plan but looking to make up for it in the football tonight!!

I firstly fancy Newcastle I think they are playing with a freedom since gaining promotion and I think they will win again tonight all be it at a good Reading side away.

2 pts 2-1 Newcastle

Portsmouth 5/1 -1 pt. Shown they can play on Sunday and all the pressure is on Wigan.

One more coupon 1 pt

MK dons Evens
Southend Brentford draw- 23/10
Bradford Morecombe draw- 12/5

Tuesday 13/04/10

After turning over an overall profit yesterday I'm going to keep up my approach by backing the early price market movers in the morning. The big mover this morning is Jack my Boy been backing into 7-1 from first show of 14-1. Andy Heffernan is good for his 5 pound claim and looked solid on his reappearance over 7 furlongs and is now going back to his best trip of 5 furlongs.

2 pt e/w 7-1 Jack my Boy 16.00 Yarmouth

Back on to the jumps I like the Tony McCoy mount in the 14.10 at Exeter Cappagh. This horse has really been struggling but his last run showed some promise and if he comes on from that he should have every chance in a poor hurdle off a mark of 93.

1pt e/w 13-2 Cappagh 14.10 Exeter

The next bet of the day will be in the 15.50 at Pontefract and the top horse Sinbad the Sailer. He is carrying a lot of weight after its recent victories but I think he is still improving significantly and is well bred in this class.

1pt win 2-1 Sinbad the Sailor 15.50 Pontefract

Right it would be rude not have a bet in the big race of the day at Pontefract the class 2 16.20. I'm backing Ouster at around 9-1. This horse ran in good company last year and if he rediscovers it in his reappearance he should have every chance. Dane O'Neill has had a good start to the season and should fancy adding to his tally of winners.

1pt e/w 9-1 Ouster 16.20 Pontefract

Will put up my football punts for tonight later,

Monday 12/4/10

Phil Mickleson's class shone through last night to give me a decent finish to the week and leave my week's total at -2 pts. This total is disappointing considering I was +10 points at some stages through the week but potentially there were too many betting opportunities and I couldn’t focus myself well enough. Still -2 is not a travesty and the new week starts today with some interesting cards at Fakenham and Windsor. After last weeks plethora of sport there is a bit of a hangover this week.

With a lot of these early meetings on the flat and especially the maidens I like to side with the gambles and get behind big market movers, with not a lot of form to go on I think this is the most rewarding plan of action. My first bet will be in the 2.20 at Windsor, there has been a lot of morning support of Zeberdee the Hannon runner. Hannon tends to start the season well and has a great strike rate with Richard Hughes on board. He is the most well bred horse in the race and I’m hoping can get my week off to a good start. 2 pt win Even money.

My second bet of the day comes in the 14.00 at Folkestone the 2 yr old maiden, where there has been a big market move on Cocohatchee after a first show of 20-1 the best price available now is 9/1. 1 pt e/w.

Be lucky!

UPDATE

Good start to the week Cocohatchee ran well into a place at Folkestone whilst Zeberdee won at Windsor thanks to a tremendous ride from Richard Hughes. Making todays total +3 and dragging the running total into the PROFIT just at +1.

Sick Saturday

Saturday was a cruel cruel day. After Hull went 1 up after 3 minutes I thought it could be another rugby score against Burnley, but some how Burnley turned it round. Zaynar made a few mistakes and it wasn't his race. Today I thought the treble would save my blushes but United couldn't beat a resilient Blackburn and don't deserve to win the league on that form tonight. I still have Mahan with a chance in the golf but I'm going to back Mickleson at 13/8. Importantly he has experience of winning a major, Lee Westwood has the pressure of never winning one hanging over him and this might play into his mind when the pressure is on tonight. So I'm chasing a bit but going to have 3 points on Mickleson at 13/8.

3 points Mickelson to win the Masters at 13/8.

Saturday

Right big bet for tomorrow goes on Zaynar in the 2.30 at Aintree. Ran a great race at Cheltenham and the longer trip will definitely suit he is 6/4 tonight and I'm getting involved at that price think he will be closer to even money in the morning.

3 point win Zaynar 6/4

I always leave the National alone don't think it is a great punting opportunity. Fancied Big Fella Thanks at 20-1 about a month ago but is too short now 10-1 is about the best price available now. Might have a couple of quid on the Package think it is quite well handicapped.

In the football I think Hull are a massive price against Burnley. The wheels have come off for Burnley and their away form has always been shocking. At 8-11 I'm going for a 5.5 point win to win 4 points.

5.5 points Hull 8/11

Fancy backing the short prices in the Premier League to hopefully cover the rest of the football punting. Liverpool, Man United and Man City all to win pays 1.88 so 5 points pays just under 15.

5 points Liverpool, Man United and Man City

Leaving me with a 2 point accumulator to try and snag a big win.

Swindon 6/4
Southampton 19/20
Notts County 23/20
Mansfield 5/4
Newcastle 8/13

2 points

Going to get my bets on tonight and get a few beers in to enjoy the sport with tomorrow.

No Complaints!!

Can have no complaints after today's racing. Menorah (-3 pts) ran a good race and just found one a little bit fresher and Monet's Garden ran a great race showing real class to hold on to 3rd place (+1). Leaving me a day total of a small -2 pt loss bringing the weeks winnings down to +8.2 pts going into a punter's paradise tomorrow. Grand National meeting, FA cup semis, Masters and a full days football fixtures in the football league.

Will put my punts up later today or tomorrow morning,

Friday 9th April

Two bet’s at Aintree today. The first is Menorah in the 2.00Hurdle, a lot of people will be asking questions whether the race at Cheltenham took too much out of the horse but looking through the horses form it’s previous best win this year was at Kempton on boxing day after only a 15 day layoff after its previous run. Throughout the year he has been in the top two in all his races showing good consistancy, the only question mark is after 6 big races this season could a 7th been one too many.

I'm willing to have a punt on him at sp price (6/4 at the moment may drift) think the layers might get involved into this one after a good start yesterday. 3 point win at sp.

My second bet of the day is in one of the most competitive races in the festival in the Melling Chase at 3.10. Is an e/w shot on Monet’s Garden at 8-1. Importantly he has been left and primed for this race missing the Cheltenham festival. Also if the form does check out from the festival his last run is huge beating Albertas Run at Ascot whom beat other contenders such as Poquelin. He isn’t the most consistent performer but has decent Aintree form and if he rediscovers his Ascot from he could hose up. At 8-1 is worth an each way punt in a very competitive race where they all have claims.

3 point win Menorah 2.00 Aintree sp
1 point e/w Monet’s Garden 3.10 Aintree 8-1

Thursday Review

Very mixed day for me. Started very well with a good win with Mad Max (+5.5 pts) but slowly drifted away. Wolfsburg were below par against a resilient Fulham, its surprising how Zamora can be injured every weekend but last 90 minutes on a Thursday night. Was a frustrating game to watch Wolfsburg had their chances but started to give up hope and become flat in the second half (-3). Mervyn King just didn't turn up in the darts with a his worst performance of the year in the premier league and Wade took advantage to be fair to him in a must win game for him (-2). Accumulator and scorecast (-1.5)therefore failed leaving my day total -1 and my overall week total still a very healthy +10.2.

Going to try to get momentum back tomorrow at Aintree and potentially a golf acculmulater on the three balls.

Will keep you posted tomorrow as to my exploits,

The Punter's Medium

Thursday update

Couple more bets for today is Mervyn King in the darts at 6/5. Wade has been out of sorts all tournament and Merv has been as consistent as ever. Wade last week showed glimpses of his best but couldn't hit doubles at key times and he will get less chances this week against Merv. At 6/5 King is worth a punt but it will be tight maybe a 8-6 scoreline as well.

2 points King win 6/5
0.5 point King to win 8-6

Wolfsburg's 4-5 that was available last night has been snapped up. For small stakes and a bit of interest in the nights sport I propose this quad to keep you interested.

Wolfsburg 8/11 ( best price still available at Coral)
Liverpool 8/13
Mervyn King 6/5
Simon Whitlock 4/6

1 pt pays 10.23

Good day today after Mad Max's impressive win my profit levels should be buffered even more so and will be updated after the football and darts tonight!

Wednesday Review and Thursday Preview

Cracking days punting for me today. My 5 point win on York was done and dusted very early, I checked the scores at half time to find York 4-0 up. The game finished 5-0 and have me +4 points on that selection. The double with Bordeaux also came in leading the days winnings up to +9.2. Earlier in the day my horse selection Montaff also ran a great race into second at 16-1 I got this morning a further +1. That gives my two day total a +11.2 and a good kitty going into the business end of the week.

Tomorrow is a huge day with the start of the Masters, Europa League and a good card at Aintree.

My Masters bets are as follows:
Steve Stricker : I got 35-1 about him earlier in the week the best you could get now is 30-1, which is still way to big! He was the top earner on the PGA tour last year and is 3rd in this years order of merit. He is very solid and I expect him to be in the frame. 1pt e/w 35-1

Ross Fisher: Ross had a great run in the majors last year and showed some grit when getting close the US Open and The Open. Although he has had some time away from the course (the only reason why I can see a huge price of 80-1 is available)if he gets his putter going he has every chance. 0.5 pt e/w 80-1

Hunter Mahan: Hunter has started to get his game together with a good win last month in the PGA and has a good record at Augusta finishing a credible 10th last year. Hopefully he will be there or there abouts. 0.5 e/w 60-1

Stewart Cink: Very consistent performer and Major winner last year - 100-1!!!! Very big price. 0.5 e/w 100-1

I would leave Woods well alone, for the last 2 years I've seen no value in his prices for majors and the 5-1 you could get now is still too short for a player in his first competitive tournament of the year. To miss the cut you can get 7-1 in places could be worth a few quid but I'm going to enjoy the Tiger show keeping my money in my pocket.

In the football Wolfsburg at 4-5 at home to Fulham screams come and get me. Fulham great in Europe this year but their away record is not as strong as their home and with players out I expect a Wolfsburg win but can still see Fulham qualifying. 3 point win at 4-5.

Will put up more Horse racing punts tomorrow but one for tonight. I like Mad Max in the 16.55 at Aintree. I was a warm thing about Somersby at the festival and if it runs to that form again at Aintree I think it will win comfortably in this field. However a lot of horses run well at Cheltenham but it doesn't translate into good Aintree form, I think that run potentially could have take a lot out of the horse and would prefer to have a punt on Mad Max at a bigger price. Mad Max was travelling very well in the same race at the Festival but blundered and then was tapered down by Paul Carberry. That run convinced me that the breathing operations had worked well enough and I think he will have every chance if he jumps well enough around Aintree. At 11-2 I've got tonight I'm happy to take on Somersby with Mad Max. 1pt win at 11/2.

More punting news tomorrow,
Be lucky,

The Punters Medium

Wednesday 07 April

Well after a good day yesterday I'm looking for another solid day to give me a decent kitty to go to war with bookies during Aintree. Last week I thought Bordeaux were unlucky against Lyon and created a lot of chances. So I'm willing to back them at home at even money to win the game over 90 minutes, still think Lyon might have the experience to qualify. I'm going to double this up with York City to beat AFC Wimbledon. AFC have been faltering of late following a demolition by Stevenage at home and without top scorer Danny Kedwell who is responsible for a large percentage of their goals York should be a good thing. York themselves haven't been on the best run of form, however after a good win at home Altrincham last time out I expect them to build on that result. The big game of the day between United and Bayern im going to leave alone tonight. Was tempted into a bet along the lines of under 2.5 goals with Rooney out I think United will struggle to score with Berbatov a lone striker, but it is so tough to call I'm going to just sit back and enjoy that contest.

I keep saying I'm not going to have a flutter on the GGs until Aintree but I can’t resist a couple of quid here and there. The big race of the day in England is the listed race at Nottingham. As with a lot of these early flat meetings it depends a lot on how much the trainer has got their horses ready for their reappearance, with not a lot of form to go on. So usually I would just enjoy such a race keeping my money in my pocket. However I going to have a small e/w on Montaff at a big price 16-1. There are doubts whether he makes the trip but he goes in softer ground which is going to be key at Nottingham today. He has just come back from Dubai so I'm hoping he has a little bit more race sharpness than the other runners.

5 point Single- York City 4-5
2 point Double- Bordeaux Evs and York 4-5
0.5 point e/w - Montaff 15.50 Nottingham 16-1

My masters bet will be out either tonight or tomorrow morning. Already advised is Steve Stricker at 35-1

Tuesday Review

The day started badly by watching the text race commentary on the racingpost website in the library praying that my flutter had been withdrawn with the lack of mention in the feed. No he just came last! The last run obviously took a lot out of him instead of improving the horse. When Barcelona went 1 down I thought it could have been the start of a disastrous day, however Messi turned the heat on and they quickly turned round the deficit as the makeshift Arsenal faltered under continued pressure. Mt first scorer bet also came in thank you to Theo Robinson and sent Huddersfield on the way to a good home win with a brace.

Considering that the Theo bet wasn't declared in the morning, my total is +1.

Tomorrow morning will put up my bets for the day.

The Punter's Medium

Tuesday 6th April

Todays big bet of the day is a Huddersfield Barcelona double, which pays just better than even money with Paddy Power. Huddersfield have a got a great home record and are against a pretty average Oldham side. They also have a chance to give themselves a 3 point cushion in the playoffs after Colchester's loss yesterday so 4-7 although short is a price I want to get involved at. Arsenal's injury problems are building up with Alex Song the latest to be crocked, leaving a makeshift back four. Although Arsenal made a spirited comeback there were times in the game where Barca were incredible and I expect them to run out comfortable winners.

3 Points Huddersfield + Barca double - Even Money

After a very tough Cheltenham Festival my equine betting has taken a bit of back seat with the plan being to have a rest until Aintree later this week, however I've had the odd couple of quid on here and there. Today I've had a small e/w punt on Kandari in the 4.10 at Fairyhouse. The horse has won over course and distance and goes in heavy ground. It had its first run for nearly over a year last time out at Leopardstown and I expect him to improve steadily from that last run, which should put him in the mix.

1 Point e/w Kandari 7-1

Will have my Masters bets out tomorrow as well as the nights football action.

Monday 05 April 2010

Started the day with optimism as most punters do with the prospect of a full fixture list in the football league. My views and trends on football coupons vary as the season progresses as well as the state of my finances. This time of year is a tough time for football coupons, with a significant numbers of teams with nothing to play for. My main bet of the day was a fivefold including West Brom, Newcastle, Millwall, Brentford and Swindon. The early kick off was Millwall my own team, which on the one hand gives me a greater insight into the team but with this insight comes an element of bias. The lions are on a good run of form against Colchester who have had a recent dip in form and with over 3000 Millwall fans making the trip I thought 7/5 about them was a great price. Swindon and Newcastle both obliged with reasonably comfortable home wins two teams in form and scoring goals for fun at home. West Brom at even money away at Watford offered value to me, but after listening to the commentary it seemed that Watford wanted the win a lot more and once more affirms how tough betting on football is at this time of the year with teams aspirations changing. Brentford disappointed me today, after putting in a great display to take a point away at Millwall and on a strong run of form just couldn't break down a resilient Exeter. All in all a disappointing coupon potentially 10 paid around 200.

Had more heartache with my second coupon for the days fixtures, for a pound I thought I would give the William Hill sections list a go and came very close. Went for the home wins of Swansea Southampton, Reading, Charlton, Blackpool, Bristol City a and Notts forest Cardiff draw and Derby Ipswich draw. 1 pound paid 303.98 and they were all in apart from the Derby Ipswich game when poised at 2-1 soccer saturday informed me there had been a late goal at Pride Park the excitement levels rose only to find out Ipswich had made it 3-1. Still I got some excitement out of my coupon.

Had a small e/w bet in the Irish Grand National, fancied Flintoff e/w at 40-1 he loves a slog in heavy ground but was pulled out at the last minute.

What a weeks punting we have in-front of us though. Masters and the return of Tiger, Aintree and Champions League. I'll keep you updated with my exploits.
